The next week at CES, Youtube will give us a demonstration of streaming 4K using a new open-source codec, VP9, which enables faster loading videos. Hope that the platform does not reproduce the failure of VP8 launched in 2010 and it manages to attract industry.
This time, in any case, the partner would VP9 to launch. The demonstration will be available on stands LG, Panasonic and Sony. Other brands have also joined YouTube as ARM, Samsung, Intel, Broadcom, Marvell, Toshiba and Sharp. It concerns therefore a large part of manufacturers of smartphones, PC or OEMs.

The VP9 Youtube is supposed to
be an open source alternative to H.165 , the current standard for video in 4K . The company hopes that this will include a better loading videos . She also said that she could support H.265 in the future if the demand is high but will initially focus on VP9 . The codec will 4K videos on PC and smartphones in the first place , the Smart TV will wait until 2015 to enjoy.
However, there is as yet no 4K smartphone ( even if Samsung already think ) about the PC , they are still extremely expensive. So, for most users , this new codec will "only" have access to a better streaming , at least for the moment. For designers also videos that are not going to change much as 4K cameras are unaffordable. The vast majority of content will therefore probably not 4k before some time . Hopefully the price will evolve quickly.
Remains whether 4K is really useful on a smartphone. To recall, the Consumer Electronics Show to be held in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10 next .
