Motorola is in turbo mode on the Ara project modular smartphone. This project, which consists of a base on which are grafted additional modules (camera, battery, various sensors) could appear much faster than expected.
Dennis Woodside, CEO of Motorola, allowed himself to
confide in an interview with Marques Brownlee. It thus indicates that the Moto Maker service, a website that lets you customize Moto X, can serve as a basis for designing its own Ara.
Better yet, he says a prototype is "very close" to be operational, while the final product should actually be configurable via Motorcycle Maker. This does not mean that everything will be available next week, but we'll know a lot more next year.
